|
|
Here's another imminent arrival for me. I've been after a decent steam turbine plant for some time now as i used to work on full sized plants. The whole setup is 900mm long and was originally fitted in a 2200mm model boat! I expect it will take a bit of going over to get her running and eventually i'll find a suitable boat to put her in!
These are the only pics i have so far but i'll get a score more on soon.

A very interesting steam plant.
What sort of boat would this be suitable for? |

She was fitted in this!
If i'm going to be building a boat for it i'm going to go along the lines of a classic steam yacht much like the Delphine although she has reciprocating steam engines as opposed to the turbine. The MY Savarona was originally fitted with turbines so i'll start off with that plan |

WOW O WOW!!!
That is a serious bit of kit, very very nice boat. The engineering on the boat and turbine looks very classy.
Thanks for sharing it with us, is the boat yours and what is going in the boat?

The plant came out of the boat and the boat will stay with its owner. I am lucky enough just to have gotten hold of the machinery The plant is the best part of a meter long and it came from Germany, If the boat had been available i guess that the chapest way to have gotten it back to Scotland would have been to sail it!
My plan will be to find a suitable hull or kit to suit the plant. Sooooo... If anyone knows of a 2 meter plus steam yacht kit or hull available let me know! |

Ahh, the Delphine is still here but it's been a really busy week for us here as our re-fit is nearing its end. I know the man to speak to so i hope to collar him during this week. I can't really roll up and ask for a nosey about the engine room with security and the like. Shame but true. |

That is one very nice and unusual looking steam plant. _________________ Les - Old age isn't so bad when you consider the alternatives.

Hi
I far as I know , there isn't allot of kits of that size. I think the best way forward would be to find a hull and take it from there. There are various manifactures of hulls but again not many at that size.
I think Sirmar for Naval type boats and there is what used to be Metcalf Mouldings also Deans Marine have a side line called Mouldeans may be worth a look.
I will find some links and post them. That is a real nice turbine, would like to see it run, looks a real beast. Also, what a ship!! The yacht isn't to bad either.
Regards

That is a serious bit of kit!
Do you plan on posting a video of her in steam any time soon?
The turbine itself reminds me of the Iron Clad ships:
