Just noticed Hobbies is selling the plans and kits for making an arrow boat and have a steam plant for it.

Tony, I believe that Arrow kit is the very one Moose built a couple of years ago.  He found the original engine designed for it was not all that good and he substituted an SEL marine engine in it's place.

Check his website where he had a complete build photolog...an inspiration for sure.

Yes I've got a Me3 minus the base plate which I would put in it which is basically an SEL marine engine with a Mamod boiler.
After posting this I had a closer look at the engine they offer and saw it was a 'unit' engine which I've not heard much good about so would be steering away from their engine but might get the boat.

Will be some time before I get my 'Navy' as I have many other projects to finish first and I got 'the look' when I mentioned making a boat.

Isn't it amazing that we all know (fear/respect etc)..."the look"...a phenomenon that crosses the globe and all married men come to know very quickly, especially if they are collectors of "guy" things.

I have found over the years that the only short term cure for "the look" is to allow the missus some compensatory buying of her own.  Only problem with that approach is a $100 dollar engine thereby effectively doubles in price but not value!!!  I have about 50 engines that have spawned 300+ dolls .  Not sure if THAT aspect of value would be covered in an insurance policy!

For completeness, here's a link to my Arrow build diary - I had a great time making it, and if I can make it anyone can! Always happy to share experiences - just shout.

Had a look at your arrow build today Moose.
I didn't realise the arrow was made from Pine.
I've got stacks of pine and a table saw and a thicknesser so if I do build the Arrow just for fun I would have to make it out of pallet wood.

Hi Tony,

It's pine and obeche with the odd bit of mahogany, but I guess it could be made out of any stripwood.

You could start your own kits from the plans and then sell them on e-bay.

Making boat kits, no thanks.
When I get round to it one will be enough
