I have just ordered this book:

http://search.freefind.com/find.h...cd=%F7&query=How+Not+to+Paint

to help me achieve the perfect finish on 'Victor'.

I have seen the author's engine (LNER B1 'Bongo') many times and he used the techniques described in the book on his engine, and to say it is superb is an understatement!

I highly recommend it to all!

Well, it looks like Victor might be finished by the end of the year

I have just steamed Victor as a stationary engine, minus cylinders and wheels

This was to set the fibre-glass wicks in the meths burner, try out the water top up valve and check that the uprated safety valve still works. Also it was a chance to steam up an engine and clear any crap collected in the steam ports!

I'll be getting a compressor and spray gun soon, so I hope to do a proper paint job this time.

Unfortunately, I have lost one of the piston ends! Clearly a push fit wasn't enough... I suspect I might find it though.

I have also decided not to fit the fine control regulator (I had to use the one bought for Victor in my Jane), and to fit a Dream Steam dead leg lubricator.

So are you going to be using an airbrush to spray it?

An amazing finsh when painting come from the amount of time you spend in the preparation stages.

Yes, I am using an airbrush to spray it.

This is because the colour I am using is not available as an aerosol, so needs to be thinned down then sprayed.

I purchased a copy of that book, It's worth it just for the lovely photos of his locomotive. It's a very nicely published book too, with lots of photos and good explanations. I bought mine from the author via Amazon, he's a really helpful chap too and offered to answer any questions I had.

I have seen his loco first hand at the Model Engineer exhibition at Ascot, and you can tell he took his time painting it as there wasn't a single blemish

I had the same thing happen to me Si. I now put a bit of Thread Seal on the inside of those brass big ends prior to refitting.

I have one spare if you have not found yours again.
