Just thought Id say hello. I have been browsing this site daily for a couple of months and have finally got round to joining . My interest in steam started when I was little with thomas the tank engine since then I have loved all things steam. Over the years I have had many 00 layouts have have just started building a garden railway but my interest in mamod, wilesco  and SEL steam engines started 3 years ago on my 13th birthday when I recieved this thing called a wilesco showman. I couldnt wait to steam it but when I did my young mind was completely overwhelmed by burning stuff to make steam this and the fact that I couldnt control the engine terrified  me so the engine was put back in the box and forgotten about for 3 years but a couple of months ago I found the engine in my cupboard put it on my shelf I wanted to steam it but decided I should start with something simpler the next day I was in my local model shop and saw up on a dusty shelf a mamod sp5D WITHOUT THE DYNAMO reduced from £120 to £100 I asked why it had been reduced and was told it had been there for 4 years so I bought it took it home and steamed it and I loved it I soon started buying more and more until I had 2 long shelves full which I now call the wall of steam. I now think this is 1 of the greatest hobbies in the world     .

sorry about the long post.

Hi and welcome to the forums!

A great story, and I like the SP5, it's a great engine!

Pictures of your collection would be nice if possible   always good to see what others collect!

Have a great time here, i'm sure you will!
