now thats 1 thing I do hate the new william looks to toylike and that control knob where the whistle should be just looks wrong

I think it is a factor with too many air holes on the firebox side plates. I use 2 tablets in the SP5 burner, and it can end up as a towering inferno.

And looking at pauly's photos in this posting of his SP5 he suffers the same problems - look closely at his boiler for the evidence.

i use three tablets in the bigger burners  

leave a hell of alot of soot and those new crome sides tarnish really badly and really fast

your right about that the flames do tend to come over the boiler

the most tablets I have used in mine was 5   because I had attached a whistle to it and it couldnt make enough steam

sometimes I made to much steam and the whistle didnt work
it does not have a whistle any more

you know what I mean James it just doesnt look as good as the original mamods and I heard that the couplers are not compatable with older mamod stock.

Im sure theres a thread on here about it somewhere.

Not to knock the William, but the older Mamod loco's are brilliant runners once you tweak them a bit
