I just sent out an email to my special friend in nuremberg (the restorator) with pics of my loco and the things that have to be done.
Especially the safetyvalve makes me worry.
It is really frozen up, i can't get it off.
So maybe he will help me, let's see!

I hope so, that is such a nice example.
Worse case scenario, it would still make a wonderful display.

If you do any repainting it will spoil the character of a beautiful old engine.

I agree no repainting.
It is a bit rough but in a good way, give it heaps of character.
I've got 2 1/2 Bing oscilating locos and would love a valve one like that but have yet to find one for a price I could afford.

In your hunt for rolling stock if you need someone to put in a bit of cash to help with a larger purchase I'm after Bing rolling stock too.

Real nice Loco there Mirko

If there is anyway of getting some vinegar into the boiler, you might want to try that in helping with the safety valve removal.

I have tried it once before, and last night used the vinegar again, when all other methods failed.

Small amount of vinegar, sit the Loco upside down and so the vinegar is around the safety valve, and leave for about an hour.

Rinse the boiler out well after.

Will the vinegar damage the engine if you leave it in for more than a couple of hours?

Probably not, but why risk it?
An eyedropper or pipette with vinegar water in it can be used to drip some on the outside of the Safety Valve, sometimes tat works.

I sure I saw a tip of repeated hot and then cold water to free a jammed safety valve.

Yes it will work, very safe but slow going.
On unpainted boilers a blow torch heating it up and duncking in water is quicker but were there is paint the boiling water followed by cold water would be safer for the paint.

Update: I got the Safetyvalve off without any damage
Party

This is how i did it:
I took my small adjustable spanners and fit then to the SV.
Then took a handy piece of wood (well, actually the back of my brass brush) and hit the spanner's handle.
Quick and not too soft, so the loco did not twist around.
Also not too hard to avoid damaging the solder or boiler.

Well, not it is off, i oiled it well and put it with a marklin washer back on the boiler. (before someone srewed it on without anything between SV and boiler)
I also tested it with some airpressure, works fine

Things to get the engine run now:
2 x screws for oilers
Some 0 gauge tracks

Some rolling stock would be fine aswell, or the loco would be too fast in the curves

I only paind for this loco 140 GBP
This is not much when you consider it is an almost complete marklin loco
So you just have to watch out for a cheap one!
