My birthday today

The kids bought me a Wilesco Ferris Wheel...since my D10 is my biggest engine, that's what I used here. I have no throttle control other than opening up the whistle. All I can say is I'm glad I don't have to take a ride on this ferris wheel . Opening up the whistle does make it run much slower, and I almost got it down to a reasonable speed, but flat out it is just plain scary!

Got my first real steam injury today too . Trying to open up the whistle a bit more, then a bit more...then my finger copped it. Does that mean I'm a real member of the club now

Apologies for the awful video, but it's my mobile phone, which is the only source of video creation I have.

Yeah I think workcover would have something to say about that ride.

A great video though    Always great to get a steam related present from the kids as it means so much more

Oh, and Happy Birthday

I am glad I am not riding on that . Have you a lineshaft at all and then you could connect it between the engine and Ferris Wheel and experiment with the different pulley sizes.

Not yet...that's on my list. I showed a lineshaft to my kids so they could see what one is. Smart kids too...their response was along the lines of 'does that mean we can get more toys to run?' So I'll get myself a lineshaft and see what they come up with for the next present . All I did was point my wife in the general direction of accessories for steam engines, then she let the kids decide what to buy. They were also keen on the striker and a couple of the carousels, so who knows what they will give me next. If they keep it up though, I will be asking for a showmans engine to run them all

Happy birthday, I think you can rent that ride to NASA so the astronauts can use it to get used to the G forces of taking off.

If you can get your hands on any Meccano that will do for making a temporary line shaft and give you a good variety of pulleys to place with.
