The Boat ran well Moose and I can understand you swearing a couple of times as I did just watching the video.
I know what its like when you want to try it out and the wheather won't let you.

I've lown my 17 gram RC plane in wind that was too strong for bigger planes just because I wanted to take it out. I did start to get worried when I had elavator down, engine full speed and I was still climbing backwards once.

Wow, what beautiful boat! I can't wait to see it running. As the others have said, take your time, but take your time quickly!

Steve, I think you've just named the boat!

How about:
"FESTINA LENTE"

(Latin, "Make haste slowly")

Perfect - just like the boat. The essence of Edwardian elegance.

It might be worth getting something to cap the oiler tube Moose.
A little plastic plug would do the job ok.

Will do mate - thanks for the tip.

no problem

tbh its probably not such an issue with a steam engine as it won't rev as hard as a motor.  But still, would be a shame to get it mucky lol.

Not only will it stop oil getting out, it will also stop dirt getting in - even more important!

Brilliant to see you here John - this boat has caused quite a stir as you can see, and you deserve the lion share of the credits!

No further work on the boat today I'm afraid.....it would appear that I neglected one of the lesser-known commandments: "thou shalt maintain thy wife's vehicles in all perpetuity", so I spent this PM rebuilding the rear wheel of her bike after she cycled home on a bare rim....never mind.

I thought you were going to say you took the spokes from the wrong one!

Just spent a couple of hours reading this thread and it was well worth it. A truely wonderfull boat. You had more faith than I would have had sailing her on her maiden voyage in that weather. That was a scale gale! (Witness the roof flying off!) It certainly proved that she's stable, though.

Well done

Thanks Roly.....it was a risk, but an informed one.....I did try her out in the bath tub, and she's very good at righting herself....the waves on the lake were strange though, really choppy, not seen them like that before.....the roof is just balsa, it weighs next to nothing, so I'll have to find a better way of holding it in place than a friction fit.

Just catching up on postings after my short trip overseas for more steam trains.

Get to see that you have finally got your steam launch baptised, but as others have already stated it was above limits for a maiden voyage sailing. Indeed when the QE2 went on its first voyage on the Clyde it had to divert into a dock due to bad weather, and you should see the sequences of the tugs struggling to get it into that dock. If you've not got a pair of waders for the subsequent recovery (did the sailboat owner get his boat back?), then I'd be more patient waiting for better weather for the initial sailing.

Chris, John won't explain it as he is no longer on this forum I'm afraid.

That is the Forum's loss as John produced some very informative postings and lots of useful advice.

Catching up too & maiden voyage also made a nervous, nail-biting wreck of me, before reading end credits & sail boat's fate
Don't think I'd have had the courage to let her go that day ! But more than proves her sea/pond worthiness   Praying for more favorable weather very soon, for my own well-being as much as Festina Lente's

you'd need about £50

Definitely, although it is good to know that she'll survive conditions like that. Now if only summer would get a move on....the forecast for this weekend is p*ss poor again!
