I have never seen anything like it before and think its scratchbuilt but dont take my word for it as I am only familiar with the more well known boat makes.

looks like you got it quite cheap as well.

I'm not a big fan of the USE engines, but that's a very good buy for the hull alone, and the boiler looks i nteresting as well. Replace the USE engines with something half decent and you'll have a very nice boat there!

where do you think their main weakness is Moose?  Are they just a bit shoddily made?

I know Moose had one in his Hobbys boat and he ended up taking it out and fitting an SEL engine.
Have a look on his website as I think he has a bit of a write up on his trials of the Uunit engines

I had two pass through my place before I gave up on them. On the first one, the ports were misaligned. The second one was better, but even after hours of running in was hardly powerful enough to shift the prop. The engine frame and inlet/exhaust tubes are cast alloy, which means you can't solder to it. The whole thing just feels cheap....probably because it is. The Midwest engine, designed very much along the same lines, is a much nicer offering.

It certainly looks scratch built to me.

I would go with scratch built too, especially as the ends aren't flanged but just soldered on.
Should be ok though at the pressures you need, just make sure the safety valve works.

Starting restoration and tested the scratch built boiler & burner.

Photobucket

Is the small scratch built bit of copper tube on the side of the boiler a OILER?
You can see the other previous pictures of it lying on the bench. The longer piece of pipe is loose and needs re-soldering.

I'm considering using my Bowman Luton boiler  & converting the engine to use on the boat OR if any body has a good marine boiler and engine will consider a swap for the Bowman Luton.

Photobucket

Note: Im replacing the leaking end cap on the boiler but she does run great.

Hi, I expect that the scratch buit bit is an oil trap to route your exhaust steam through......

Please don't break up your Bowman Luton!

So that what it is...

The Boiler does look great in the boat. (Would be even better with the Engine)

Photobucket

I know it sacrilege to break up the Bowman Luton, so if any body is willing to swap or sell me a good looking marine engine please contact me?
