The Lake Goldsmith Steam Rally is on this weekend at Lake Goldsmith, about 150km west of Melbourne. They hold a steam rally twice yearly on a 38 acre site. Unfortunately I can't go this time around due to other commitments, but here's a few pics of the sorts of thing you can see...

Things like this, a 90 tonne beast which they fire up

Right down to this

With things like these in between:

This one was made in Ballarat (110km west of Melbourne), where I was born

and even this little beauty

If anyone ever finds themselves in Melbourne early May or November I highly recommend a visit. Steamrail Victoria run a special - steam train from Melbourne to Ballarat, then they will bus you out to the rally for the day, with a return trip at the end. The line to Ballarat includes a section of 1 in 48 grade climbing, and I can tell you, a steam train sounds absolutely stunning pulling up a grade like that.

Not sure when I'll be able to make it back to Lake Goldsmith, but I'm sure it won't be too long
