Great camera work thanks Clinton.  Shame about the guy who did the voice over

The engine has some problems with wasted steam, but the big boiler coped well and the steam going everywhere looks good

Thanks for letting me use your boiler.

The crank bushing is flogged out from my running it too fast on air.  I'll make another bushing from bronze, and next time we'll show it driving some LEDs.

We also tested a VCR motor as a generator/dynamo.  Driven with Clinton's gas engine, or one of his larger steam engines, it will light a car tail light bulb.  That's serious power, and has given us an idea for a display board.

I enjoyed being a 58 year old kid again this afternoon.

Peter.

I like that so much, a very ingenious device.

Thanks for the comments guys.  Meeting Clinton and his family has really helped me to appreciate the important things, like steam engines and having fun.

Peter, what kind of engine was that? Neat vid.

I've only been a kid since I turned 50, but I reckon 58's a good age to be a kid, too

Chuck, the engine is scratch built using the chassis and flywheel from a computer floppy drive, mostly because I was too lazy to cut a flywheel from steel bar.

There's another video of it running on compressed air, in the "Meet the members" section.

Growing older has very little to do with growing up, thank goodness

The engine was very cantankerous at first on steam and took a while to warm up.  As I said, it wastes heaps of steam, as indicated by all the clouds of steam in the video.  My "off the top of my head" port timing is obviously high performance, because it doesn't slow down very well, going from full speed to a stop when you reduce the steam pressure

Peter.

Whoo-hoo! I like to make engines using ordinary what's on hand stuff, too.
Looks like Oldstuff's got an Aussie counterpart.

Can we possibly get some still pics showing the parts? I'm not sure how
you did it, but a floppy drive steam engine sounds like a cool project.

Oops, nevermind...I visited meet the members and saw what I was looking for.

Thanks everyone.

Chuck, I think I have some way to go to catch up with your ability to use whatever is lying about, but thanks for the compliment.

I still haven't had time to do the promised detailed build report for the steam floppy, because the demand for my guitar pedals hasn't let up yet.  I'd like to build my own boiler, but haven't yet had tome to find some copper pipe.

Peter.
