| I've noticed that you can now buy a kit version of the pop-pop Titanic - has anyone got one of these yet? how easy are they to construct? |

Yes. And really simple to put together. The boiler is already soldered in & only need to attach funnels with tabs & then crimp superstructure/deck to the hull. And then decorate it, of course |

Not the kit, but I think I am getting the very last one that Buzz has, he is going through a lot of extra effort to get me one. He does have a smaller one that he says is in fact better built, the "smaller" one is 13 inches long!
However I think I am getting the bigger one, he has the box and thinks he knows where one is to put in the box. _________________ Your life is an occasion...Rise to it |

I dont know why it would need to be better built mine seems pretty strong and it survived the royal mail service so it could pretty much survive anything. _________________ knowledge is power

I think the one that is no longer made is supposed to look a lot nicer, How long is your Titanic? He only gave me the length of the smaller one which is 13 inches, or 33 cm I believe. _________________ Your life is an occasion...Rise to it |

Very nice Pop- pop pauly
I have the victoria model off of buzz's site, but I bought it at the museum of natural science downtown in 2001. I guess my interest in steam goes back a little further than I thought! |

Pauly, did you fill the tubing through one side until it comes out the other just before putting in the water? A syringe works well for that, or turkey baster or rubber tube on a squeeze bottle. They are supposed to be pre-filled that way before starting...add the fire AFTER it is placed in the water. _________________ Visit IndianaRog and The Temple of Steam: www.indianarog.com |

yes I did infact I did several times just to be sure I just dont know whats wrong with it it might be the candle burner not being up to the job of moving such a large boat. _________________ knowledge is power

I got good results with a mini meths burner of the design Steve S recently shared...it puts out a great flame for 20+ minutes...maybe not as long a run as a candle, but certainly hotter.
These Pop Pops seem to be somewhat finicky I am finding. I read where the boiler/tube assembly is actually cemented together with an epoxy like glue...NOT soldered as it might first appear. I wonder how long those seams last in response to the pop pop action which is the boiler flexing rapidly. _________________ Visit IndianaRog and The Temple of Steam: www.indianarog.com |
