You could be right Tony. However the listing says it's from Davies Charlton Limited, Hills Meadow, Douglas, Isle of Man. And a date on the box of 14th October 1951.
I guess, it may not have been made here but was just sold here. Or it was made here but made for another bigger UK firm. Either way I think I have to go for it. Just to try and find out more.

You're joking. They keep going and then just move back. For those who don't know I've got 5 boys aged 14 to 20. We're a kind of a modern 'blended' family with a collection of surnames and backgrounds. The boys are all great and I love em all to bits. The oldest 3 have all made to fly the nest in the past and then just seem to change their minds and stay at home. I have a feeling nothing is going to really change for a few years yet, and to be honest, I don't mind one little bit.

It was made by DC
They made a range of model diesel and glow engines for use in model aircraft. These were fairly cheap, popular engines made from the 50's up until the 80's and in huge numbers. There was a range of accosories such as props, starters hubs etc for the engines. I'll try and find some pics of them.
Most of the engines appeared when they took over Allbon engines.

Thanks for that. Look what I've just found on the internet. I think the model I'm looking at was made on the Island. This article seems to support the idea of DC being based here in the 1950's.

Nice find Manx.
I'm still looking to get a Mandurah steam engine as that's the only brand of commercially made steam engines I know of made in Western Australia. Guess you should go for it and get a 'local' for your collection.
Just watch out as the hot air engines are clean and easy to run, you might just find yourself with another lot of engines to collect.

Other engines in the range were Merlin, Spitrire, Sabre, Bambi, Dart, Rapier, all these were compression ignition (diesel). they made glow plug engines but their names escape me at the moment. They were definately around in the 50's, ive seen the ads in old aeromodellers. the DC350 which I belive to be their first engine was both diesel and glow.

Yes I have seen it but if I remember he had a pretty high price on it.
Would rather wait as I'm sure one will turn up eventually cheap for me.
