|

A great day at Colney Heath Toy Boat Regatta, what a fantastic venue it is, built on a water works site there is not only a very large 2 feet deep Boat Pool,
but there is also a high level 2.5”, 3.5” and 5” gauge railway, a 71/4” ground level railway both about 1/2mile long.
There is a sizeable Gauge 0 and 1 layout under the green baze
I guess that there were about 15 people exhibiting and running boats powered by steam, battery, clockwork and wind.
I would like to say that I had no trouble during the day but thee boats had a few problems.
The maiden voyage of the Meteor was a success, it ran beautifully but listed slightly over to the port side, it can be corrected by the addition of a few lead weights. Apparently it is a common problem.
The burner for the SEA Jay was playing up and needs the wicks replacing, this is one burner that the wonder wick is not that good for.
The Snipe ran the boiler dry in the middle of the lake, swift action with a bucket of water saved the day.
The Modeen again listed to the port side and I had to beg a few lumps of solid (cough) fuel. I am going to make a meths burner for it.
And I almost forgot, the Miss England PWE was running very well when it got
T boned by a radio controlled model, the deck came off and the boat sank to the bottom.
Here are some pics of the day.
There were 4 pre war Bowman Seahawks running, two Meteors, Miss Mersey, GEM Boat, JetEX powered boats, oh it was good _________________ www.mfsteam.com the home of the MFtwin and replacement spares for Bowman, Cyldon and Mamod Steam Engines

So cool, I would love to visit that place sometime. Thanks for posting all of the different boats too, I am just starting to learn about them and fear to get one as it seems habit forming. _________________ Your life is an occasion...Rise to it |
