Steam Pipes Above Or BeloW? (visible or not)

just want to know what people think about where steam pipes are.

Has to be visible as it is part of the engine.

I agree, as in a SE3 or similar.

Although under might look cleaner, if one ever needs to work on them, above the base makes repairs much easier, I vote for above.

Yes, everything should be visible and easy to get at IMHO.

Yes I like seeing them, plus as an added bonus it gives you something else to burn your hands on.

Yup.  Being as I now have 3 Wilescos, and they all have the piping under the base, I would MUCH rather they be on top like my Jensen.  I had to remove the steam pipe on my new-old engine (pics soon, and this time I remembered the before pics!) 50+ year old solder is a PITA to get loose, and trying not to damage the boiler or engine while you have it upsidedown trying to remove those *&%$#@#$% lines.  You really need 3 hands. But...  I am trying to keep the engines reasonably original, so I just have to cope!!
Sides....  I agree...  you need to have more things on which to burn your fingers!!!
