I don't think there was any set dates for it as I have 3 SE3's with it, one with the old style whistle, one new style whistle and one with a solid fuel burner. I also have an SE2A engine with it too, so I don't think the hammerite/hammer tone finish can be used for any dating at all, except to say between the late 60's and late 70's before the SP range came into being.
Cheers

Sorry no close-ups, only this pic from my recent Collections & Pics board thread 'And Now There are Seven',
http://modelsteam.myfreeforum.org/about10701.html
The back row right end engine has a hammerite/hammertone finish as well as the bottom left and bottom right on the front row. The bottom right on the front row is a G & G engine, without the regulator. Somehow one of the whistles has got moved around as well so I need to put an original bent arm whistle back on one of those with the hammertone/hammerite finish.
Cheers

Thanks for the help guys.
Yeah Shaun, I always wondered about it, and thought it was limited to a certain time period. _________________

my se2 was originally hammertone and to my knowledge there is only a very limited range of colours available.
Incedently can someone confirm what a suitable shade for a non hammertone frame could be . I think I saw somewhere on here 'highland green'
replies appreciated as I'm now ready to paint my se2 frame

my 1967-1972 Mamod SE2A (with older style whistle) has it |
so DID mine, I don't like it may be original but I see no point for that finish it adds nothing to the aesthetics and and a nice enammaly gloss is my preff |
