Yeah the exhaust is kinda weird on those.

My one Empire is a very wet and squishy sounding engine.

Its is a bit on the messy side, really, its the messiest, and noisiest engine I have.  Its rather a worn out wreck, and I love it.  You would never think that something with so much slop in all of its parts could run that well..   but is is a very "wet" engine for sure.   Sort of interesting on an electric fired.  I am just thrilled that the heater works.

There is no question that Empires are self lubricating...they run wet for sure.  Just keep the water from running right on the electric prongs and you will be fine.  AND ground wire the darn thing to a GFCI outlet (I am a desciple of GFCI outlets when running these old electrics).

Did you take it apart at all?  I've heard here and there that the sheet metal base Empires had lead alloy pistons.  Might account for the wear.

My example is the B30 overtype, and that one's a brass piston.  Only thing I don't like about it is that the mess leaks down the side of the boiler. I just about have to stuff a rag under the engine to keep the muck from getting at the underside.

They are a unique little motor, though.

I'm hoping that my turbine gets here this week.
