I think this very airport and low flying planes were featured on 'Holidays from Hell'

The airport is Princess Juliana International Airport, St. Maarten.

It is of course famous for these spectacular approaches over the short section of beach. For the view from the cockpit, see this video - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ksmDuXO_k6E

There are lots of photos of these landings, here's one - http://www.airliners.net/photo/Ro...ev_id=1350839&next_id=1350837 Have a look through that website for many more like this one.

I had two US FA18s fly over my car at that hight before when I was driving it and that was enough, wouldn't want a passenger jet to do it.

It used to be about three times a week the A-10 Warthogs would fly low enough over my house to make the Sycamore shed a few leaves. I live close to a Firing Range where they practice and I am on top of a long valley where they would practice flying under the radar. There was some kind of incident in Italy a few years back and they no longer fly that low over populated areas. Still, on rare occasions they do fly that low over the house. A lot of air moves behind them.

My wife grew up in the landing pattern for Logan airport.... planes flew over the house so low, you could read the numbers, and the house would sway.  But that video... I am still trying to find my jaw

By `ek!!!!

As a passenger, I`ve lifted my feet up, during similar landings at Jersey (Channel Islands) airport.

But we were a lot higher than that.........

And it is not just the landings that are spectacular.

Have a look at the jet exhaust effects on take-off - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WTLGsEErWJY&feature=related & http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nLPiPrxKvzY&feature=related

Of course it goes without saying that this would not be allowed in the real world (road would be closed, and beach as well, during aircraft operations), but with limited space on this island it is the only way to get the rich tourists in to spend their money.

A more spectacular approach was the Checkerboard Approach into Runway 13 at Kai Tak, Hong Kong where the aircraft had to make a large turn onto final approach. Here's a classic example - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OtnL4KYVtDE

The checkerboard was a visual ground marker that the aircraft lined up on prior to turning 47 degress onto finals - http://www.ephotozine.com/u46720/gallery/374707

One reason why a new airport was built in Hong Kong, which stopped some spectacular crash landings.

I wouldn't be surprised if that car owner finds tyre marks on his roof!
