Evening all,
I`m in the market for 3 to 6 Meccano Gears, I wish to make One
Gear Sets of Three Gears into a 8 to1 Gear Drive Train, and the
other Set to make a 6 to 1 Gear Drive Train, Both of these will
be used to build a "Live Steam Gear Locomotive",
The Two Gears sets give me a choice of one or the other.
Is there a place here in Perth {WA} to purchase these without
having to buy an entire Meccano Set???.
I certainly dont mind Second Hand if available.

Hello Les,
Yes I`ve looked thru` Ebay, but I`m afraid I`m not sure as to
what I`m looking for, I really did not wish to just grab anything
that jumped out in front of me and find later It wont give me
what I`m after.

I have dealt with him many times (for my Dad). If you tell him what you would like to do, he should be able to help you.
At last contact, he said he doesn't list everything all the time, but you can ask him for particular parts

Try also Meccparts in New Zealand - www.meccparts.com
He stocks all the new plastic parts and has a good on-line catalog with pictures. The plastic prices are way cheaper than the prices of the old brass gears.
Note also that some plastic Meccano gears fit only the new triangular axles and do not have a grub screw. That is the hole in the hub of the gear is triangular so it can move sideways on the axle but still drive.

here is a tip! ive recently wrecked some old old cordless drills from the dump. they have compatible gears to meccano . they gave me 6 small pinion gears each and electric motors with gear teeth on them. great value i thought as i paid $ 2 each and they give you a chuck plus gears and motor!

Just to add to that, the charger and motor from the cordless drills can be made into a meccano motor with transformer.
This motor and charger on the left came from a Makita drill which had a battery pack it in. A dimmer switch added to control the speed.
The black motor on the right is also from a cordless drill

i wrecked a black and decker and a ryobi drill. they had the same gears. its almost worth buying a new cordless drill ($25 at super cheap) for a meccano power plant
