I have thousands You would not believe, the things that I think up when just staring out the window while riding in a car. I thought of that because I was thinking about routing the steam to a chimney but hey, why not to extenguish the fire? _________________ Best Regards, Ranger Moore |

That's brilliant Ranger......if space allows I might just do that, and never mind the servo!
I think we should have a specific "Ranger's Ideas" section on the forum. _________________ Stands the glass half empty,

Have a small CO2 tank, connect a valve to it an the spare servo to the valve. Connect the Co2 to the engine, so if your boiler dies at least you can get back to shore. Well for me I would use the CO2 as a turbo charged steam engine |
Ive always wondered abot that. What do you do if a steam boat runs out in the middle of a lake? |
The model boat club where I live have a 'rescue' boat.
It's an electric powered boat that is 'U' shaped with soft rubber on the inside of the U. If a boat gets stranded in the middle of the lake out it goes catching the boat inside the 'U' and brings it back to shore. _________________ http://www.freewebs.com/ozsteam/index.htm

I second that Steam can do many things, burn, scald, run an engine and put out fires. 2 out of 4 aint bad. _________________ Best Regards, Ranger Moore |

I have a telescopic "pocket" fishing rod. I'm not an angler so I don't know how good my fly fishing skills are, but I'm sure I would get it eventually. Touch wood - I haven't needed to prove it yet. _________________ Regards

Better idea than the exhaust extinguisher. Add a sceond valve connected to the boiler connected to a servo, the servo will pulll the vavle open. That will send steam into the firebox area putting out the fire. BUT the servo also will push on a putton turning on an electric motor thats connected to the prop. This way you get rid of fire, and steam, but also get your boat back to saftey. I plan to use a similar idea on something I'm working on. _________________ Best Regards, Ranger Moore |

... and while the motor's not turning the prop it can be trickle charging the battery _________________ Regards

Clever....the electric motor could be permanently to the prop and act as a generator charging up an emergency battery, until you flick the switch - then the same battery powers the motor,,,,,
OMG I've got Ranger syndrome - before you know it I'll have the engine out of my car and running on steam! _________________ Stands the glass half empty,

Well maybe not charging a battery, just run the motor off the servo battery. If you charge it, it creates a load and for little engines like mine a load is not a good thing. The motor could also be used as a starter motor. Just make it where the motor engages before the boiler steam drain. So if your out in the water and your engine stalls just lightley tap the servo and your off again.
I'm thinking about this while using a small midwest engine, but with your twin engine charging a battery would not slow it down much.
I'm just going to probably use the motor as a starting motor, Hmmmm replace the midwest with a wilesco, you've got me thinking again. That good and bad. Good for me and bad for the wallet. _________________ Best Regards, Ranger Moore |

Excellent plan.....that will make the little boats a whole lot more fun to run as well, as the RC will become more interesting than rudder only. _________________ Stands the glass half empty,
