First up, we have the pride of the collection.

Roundhouse 'Katie'

This loco was built in 2007/8 by the well known locomotive manufacturer Roundhouse Engineering of Doncaster.

She is a re-gaugeable 0-4-0ST in black fitted with simplified walschaerts valve gear and RC on the reverser and the regulator. Unfortunately the RC is playing up at this moment in time, so she may have to go back to Roundhouse for fixing.

I have some nameplates for her, and she is to be named 'Peaslake', as that is where my parent's first met. Plus I think it is a very nice name for such a fine loco!

Roundhouse-Beck 'Anna'

'Anna' was purchased earlier this year, and is another favourite of mine. She is a bit of an oddity, as she is rather boxy and a bit cumbersome.

She is set to the gauge of 45mm, or Gauge 1, uses slip eccentric valve gear and was built by Roundhouse of Doncaster between 1988 and 1990.

Although made by Roundhouse, she was not designed by Roundhouse. Beck of Germany made Anna's for some time, but where then bought out by Merlin of Telford where she was made until then being bought out by Roundhouse.

Beck were the first to design and use in locos the single flue, gas fired boiler which we see on most gas fired locos today.

She can pull a decent load on level track, she doesn't like hills very much though!

I.P. Engineering 'Jane'

Another favourite (then again, all of my locos are

), 'Jane' was bought at this year's Merstham Steam Show for the sum of £180. She was in good condition, but after a few runs on Titan's layout it was obvious some work needed doing.

When she arrived home, I:

1) Stripped off the poorly applied Trimline
2) Re-wicked the burner
3) Applied PTFE tape to all the cab fittings.

After that she now runs beautifully, and has since gained the name 'Ivor' owing to a couple of purchases from Rob Bennett at Merstham and a headboard made by Alan2525.

Next in store will be a repaint (into a slightly lighter shade of green) as the current paint job doesn’t look right…

My Jane is on the right hand side.

The buffer beams below have sice been transferred to Victor.

MSS ‘Victor’

God only knows how long this loco has been in bits and how long it has been since it turned a wheel in anger…

‘Victor’ was bought second hand, albeit in good condition, with some Mamod track with the inheritance from my late Grandfather after whom the engine is named.

After several firings on solid fuel, it was decided to super detail ‘Victor’ and make him into a very useful engine (where have I heard that phrase before?!).

So far, ‘Victor’ has received:

A set of buffer beams made by Alan 2525.
Nameplates from MDC via PPS Steam Models.
O ring pistons.
Water top up valve.
Up-rated safety valve.
A meths burner.
Dream Steam displacement lubricator.

Although owing to a recent incident and seeing what has happened to Graham-Jilly’s MSS loco, Victor will be fitted with a Dream Steam boiler soon.

The paint colour is still a secret, although Steamy-Jim knows what it is!
