|

Here's a few pictures of my small but expanding collection of Loco meths burners.
The 'front' one is from IP, the middle one is from Chas & the one at the end is some strange 'device' that came with my kit SL.
These picts show the subtle differences between the three burners in the area of filling and mounting. Notice that the IP burner (one on the left) doen't come with a filler stopper & what's with the pipe filler on the right hand side burner?
I've only used the Chas burner at the moment which worked really well with a wick length of 2mm.

there is another. Has a good tank at the back too! not sure how long it burns for, but it's a really good burner. I just sold it though
You need the modified chassis, which I included _________________ Solid Fuel tablets explode

Now that's what I call a monster burner MM .
My friend at work has just bought a Railway set and in the set is a 2 wick burner.
I was thinking about the merit of 2 wick burner as when I was running my Chas burner last night, it only ran on 2 wicks for the final 6 to 7 minutes of the burn, so why do I need 3 wicks ?
The heat given off by the two wicks was plenty hot enough to get an engine going but may be you need the 3 wicks to start if off?
Eitherway, I may have a play with the strange burner that came with my kit SL as I can't imagine I'll ever use it as it, as it doesn't actually fit correctly hence the bend in the 'vein' at the end.

Not sure I think the idea of the 3rd wick is for a bit of superheating . That 2 wick burner wouldn't give much superheating anyway _________________ Solid Fuel tablets explode

I'm guessing the pipe is so you could refill the meths burner whilst it is lit for longer running.
Have a syringe with a bit of rubber house on the end suck up some meths and squirt it into tank, no chance of spiling meths everywhere with disasterous concequences. _________________ http://www.freewebs.com/ozsteam/index.htm

Haven't even looked at my SL3 yet, but is there a meths burner you can substitute for the solid fuel one without modification??? _________________ Ouch! Where's the burn cream

You'd be lucky if it actually got up to steam with solid fuel _________________ Solid Fuel tablets explode

You'll need to buy a 'revised' spacer i.e check out Tmuir's pictures.
The revised space has a cut taken out of it, to make sure the burner doesn't catch on the old chassis spacer (PPS & IP sell them).

Cost a fortune too.
I think I paid 1 pound 50 for the spacer. _________________ http://www.freewebs.com/ozsteam/index.htm
