A few days ago, one of the members on the forum (not telling, he can tell if he wants   ) Bought a mamod MM, without a vaporising burner. I decided to make one for him and ship it to him for free

Its not really a mamod burner, but its the same size, bigger flame   , and same burntime.

What I used:
3/4" copper pipe
Brass plate,  (brass door push plate)
1/8" steel rod, maybe a bit smaller.

Heres a pic of the burner

Sorry no pics of the build, but I can explain it.

I cut a piece of 3/4" copper pipe about the same length as the mamod vaporising burner body (the main part)

Then I cut 2 peices of the brass plate, square, probably 1/4" bigger than the copper pipe.

I soldered on the brass plates to the copper pipe with regular plumbers solder. I tried silver soldering, but my torch didnt have enough heat    Oh yeah.. while I was soldering the air expanded and forced an air bubble through the solder joint, I probably should have drilled a hole in the pipe first.

After that cooled, I ground off the square edges on top and cleaned up the bottom ones. Heres a pic of the back plate.. or is it the front

I heated and bent the steel rod into a handle, then I filed 4 grooves (2 on each plate) on the bottom to make room for the handle.

After a little more bending of the handle, I soldered it in place.

Now for the cut on the top pipe, I just took my air cutter and cut a slot in the pipe. Easy right ?

I first tried it without the 3 semi-holes in burner slot, it worked, but not great. After the holes were drilled it made alot more flame.
I hope the person who recieves it is happy    The wicking is made from insulation, I went up to my attic and grabbed a hand ful, its going to last me a while    The insulation is not the traditional kind, it doesnt make you itch like crazy, it also lasts forever.

Its a great burner, I think. What does the forum think?

That is one of the many reasons I like him.  I am a pyro myself.

I too, have built many burners.  John has a few of them!
I love this place.  We can all share.

I'm a pyromaniac    I set my house on fire    Just to watch it burn      No not really...

I have found out that some burners need to be silversoldered, one of ine fell apart because of the heat output.

This one wont do that, however I havent tested it fully    You can do that

Its here!
Very nice, and heavy!  It should not vibrate out of the firebox.  I will update this thread as soon as I get a chance to try it out.  Going away for the weekend.
Going camping (sort of, going to a campground, and staying in a travel trailer)  I like electricity, indoor plumbing, and refrigeration for the beer and food.

See ya'll!!
