Well, after much bidding and being outbid, I finally landed a Minor 2 from ebay. This was the engine that started it all for me. It was given to me by my parents for my 9th birthday. Well, not this exact one, but you get the idea. It was lost some years later, and I have always wanted it back. So now I have it. It's missing the burner but that's easy to fix. And it came with a nice lineshaft, which i think more than compensates. It cost $55, which I think is pretty fair, and it comes with that spiffy rubber band for free too. So I am well and truly chuffed. Now I just need to wait for it to travel halfway around the world...

And as an extra bonus, I also won this delivery van, for $200. Unfired, in box. Not sure if this is a good price or not, but the new ones seem to go for around $650, so I thought it was ok. The box is a bit ratty, but I don't have space to keep boxes anyway.

So it's been a productive couple of days on e-bay. First engines I've bought for quite a while, and I couldn't be happier.

What great buys, you will be pleased with those although I do not think the rubberband will be much use.

Well, offhand I would say the chances of me being wrong are much higher.

I though that MM2s had the overflow plug on the end of the boiler, but now I see that some of the later MM1s also had this. I didn't know that. I suppose the size of the baseplate is the giveaway?

So now I don't know what I had when I was a kid. I know it had the overflow plug, so I had assumed it was an MM2. I think just to be safe I'd better buy one of each.

Kevin, two very good condition pieces (3 if you count the lineshaft), and I think you got them for a very fair price if you are talking $USD.

Hey Kevin, does the van come with or without the "Tim Hortons Iced Cap" sitting beside it?

I know it's off topic, but you can't beat a Tims coffee with a box of Timbits. Heaven.
