When I worked for the railways I told them they needed to replace their cable locator and was told 'No, its a waste of money'
Now I dont work for the railways and tge cable locator that I told them needed replacing has blown up and they can't hire a replacement one at such short notice. So tomorrow through the new company I work for I'm being hired back to locate thier cables and give them advice at a much higher price than they would of paid when I worked for them. 
Best of all I am now going to be paid to write up a recommendation as to which brand and model they should buy to replace thier broken one.

Already have.
The quote for me to do work states I will provide my own safety boots and vest all other PPE is to be provided by the railways. The railway regs state you must wear safety glasses on the Perway and OHS standards say you need to wear sunglasses. I just badly scratched my safety sunglasses and I know the railway comms section has nice ones so have told them they have to provide me with a pair before I can do any work on the Perway for them.

I've got another good I told you so moments coming in a few months.
A new two story office block they are building they are planning to run the lead in cables from the wrong place. I told them just before I left but no-one listened. I cant wait until the 100 odd people go to move in and find that no anologue communications will work.

I had one person tell me they didn't even need anolgue communication anymore as it was all going to go VOIP so he may recommend they dont even install the tie cable to the old telephone equipment frame (which if they do cable up the plans tells them to put it in the wrong building).
I tried to tell him some people still needed to use analogue modems at which point he cut me off and said they could use thier modems over anologue telephone adapters (black box that turns anolgue phones into VOIP phones).
I let it drop at that point as he wanted to hear nothing more. Modems are flakey at the best of times ove ATAs as are faxes and I know it wont work for the train control equipment as I set up a test box and tried it so it will be interesting when the signal techs cant dial into thier signal equipment anymore to test it or fault diagnose it.

I got myself a new pair of sun glasses from my old work.
I also got offered my old job and a promotion up one level aswell.
I just smiled and said make it two levels and I'm think about it, make it three levels and I'll empty my desk at my current job.

Most of the station staff in the PTA are ex workshop staff.
Were carpenters, boiler makers, machinest etc. The governement couldn't force them to take redundancy when they shut the workshops some 12 to 14 years ago.
Those that stayed who were all skilled tradesman were made to pick up rubbish in the rail reserve for several years to try and break thier spirit to get them to quit. When that didn't work they made a number of them into CSAs (Customer Service Assistants) or more commonly know as Station staff.
Up until very recently upper management just considered anyone who didn't have a degree as just scum that didn't deserve decent treatment, thankfully that has changed.
Just in the last 3 months the last 6 people who were classsified as redeployees 14 years ago got given perminate positions again. Its discusting it took them so long to do that.

That is a shameful way to treat such good people that worked hard for so long. I'm currently reading 'An Illustrated History of Eastleigh Locomotive Works' (being a Southern man!). I find these places of engineering fascinating, although sadly the works have recently been closed down by their owners Alstom. Although the best part is that the last loco to leave was SR LN Class 4-6-0 No. 850 'Lord Nelson'! Definitely a must to travel behind this year, especially as it is turned out in Southern railway 'Malachite' Green and has four cylinders. Lovely livery The loco coincidentally enough having been built at Eastleigh! There is a picture in the book of the loco fresh out of the works as well. Very good read, mostly pictures, what is there in terms of text is very informative and devotes the most part of it to the steam locos rather than the diesels and electrics later on. A must buy
