Hello guys,

here I want to show you my Wilesco D24 el. It is about 30 years old but in relative good condition. There are two versions: the D24 with solid fuel burner and the D24 el with electrical heater, also known as D242. The new version of this engine has got some differences in detail, but I prefer the old look. This machine is the biggest steam engine that Wilesco produces at the moment. The kettle has got a volume of 570 ccm and a nickel plated mirror polished brass jacket for better insulation. It is really big and has got much power. The flywheel has got a diameter of 100 mm. The aggregate is double acting, so you can run it forward or reverse. There is also an instrument panel with steam regulator wheel, steam jet oiler and a pressure gauge. The base plate has got a size of 33 x 42 cm and the whole machinery is about 40 cm tall. Sadly, the little pipe which is mounted on the under side of the drain valve is now broken, but I think after some soldering it will work again. Surely, you can still drain the boiler without problems

But now it’s time for some pictures

The D24 beside my D161, which is basically a D16. Notice the size of the boilers.

Wilesco Dampfmaschine / Steam Engine D24 el

Let me know what you think.

Greetings Dennis

Very nice D24 bandit.

i have a question for you, i noticed with my own that the manometer only worked when the engine had hot pressure and does not work if i used  my compressor. Is it the same with yours?

First of all, thank you for the comment.
Strange... why is it?
I mean, manometers work with pressure and not with heat Wow!
Sorry, but I don't know, I did never run it on compressed air.

Greetings Dennis

that is very true and thats why we were baffeled. The subject had been disscussed  here before and the only explanation we could come up with was that Wilesco may have used Bi-metallic strips graduated so  pressure matched with temperature.

When i opened the manometer to look inside , it was a coil and a pin. Thats why i wanted to see if your was the same.
However the manometer on my D20 is a true manometer and works with compressed air too . It seems that the manometers wilesco used were differently made batches.

Apparently, some Wilesco "manometers" work on temperature not actual pressure. They rely on the fact that, as pressure increases, so does the boiling point of the water. It's a cheat but is obviously cheaper to manufacture.

Well, than my manometer seems to be a "real" one, too.
When I use the whistle then the pressure drops a little bit.

It is in a very good condition considering its age.

Yes, it's looking pretty nice.
Well, this little pipe beneath the drain valve is now broken, but it's still looking great.

Very nice engine and in superb condition. She should be able to drive ten or more models. I really enjoyed the video.

As far as I know the chromed pressure gauges are real ones or at least very good "fakes".

Thank you Klaus.
Yes, ozsteamdemon had once hooked up 28 accessories to his D24
What a pity I have only got 3 of them, so I can't try it (without the ones mounted on my D161)

Hello Little Bandit. Yes,I like your Wilesco D24. I have a Wilesco D20 by the way. Being a Motor Vehicle Enthusiast I also like your Avatar of a magnificent MAN TGA ,Tipper-bodied,Rigid 8-Wheeler Lorry. Do you drive this MAN? or are you just a Commercial Vehicle Enthusiast?

First of all, thank you for your comment
The truck on the picture isn't an MAN TGA, it is an MAN TGS.
And no, I'm not the driver of this truck because I'm only 17 years old, but I like them very much
If you like, I can send you some photos.

By the way, have you already uploaded pictures of your D20?

Greetings Dennis

Hello Little Bandit. Sorry, but I have not uploaded any photographs of my Wilesco D20,or of anything else yet, because I do not know how to upload at present. But I hope to upload things some time.
Regarding the MAN TGS Lorry,is the TGS a later model than the TGA,or does the S in TGS indicates that its a rigid and the A in TGA indicates that its a articulated vehicle? I think the latest MAN TG's are designated TGX - or at least the artic models are.
Thanks for the offer of the photographs  Do you intend to upload them on here or what?

Robert.

Well, the simplest way to upload photos is the "Attach File" function beneath the window where you write your posts.

Well, the TGA was available with six different driver's cab versions: M, L, LX, XL, XLX and XXL.
After the new models were presented in 2007, they splitted it in two versions: The ones with M, L and LX are called TGS, the ones with XL, XLX and XXL are TGX
There are also TGL and TGM, but those are another models.
And if I upload this photos here... I don't think that steam engines have got something to do with trucks, so I will sent you a PM with a link

Greetings Dennis
