Anyone here scratch built any rolling stock?
In particular passenger carrages.
I'm thinking of building one based on an old carrage at my old work but after looking at Brandbrights website I'm a bit overwhelmed with choices.
I'm looking for any websites photos etc of other scratch build carrages to give me insite, inspiration to build mine. _________________ http://www.freewebs.com/ozsteam/index.htm

I haven't scratchbuilt anything, but have done a few kits. Detailed pics of every item is neccessary, you must have access to the item you want to base it on, get some measurements of the prototype, and ALWAYS use pictures as reference when building it Possibly blow any pictures up to G scale so you can use them as templates _________________ Si

| maybe start off with one of the ip engineering kits first to get to grips with it you can get the cheap wagons for £18 gos up to about £30 for a coach then go on to scratchbuilding |

Yes might give that a go first before jumping in the deep end.
The carrage I eventually want to build is in the lobby of my old work so can get access any time to take photos and measurements. Don't plan on building an exact scale model of it, just use it for my inspiration. _________________ http://www.freewebs.com/ozsteam/index.htm

Hi,
Sorry if i'm a bit late, but after buying a Lollypop Farm kit from I.P and enjoying making it, I decided to use the dimension and create a bogie coach. I was happy with the way it went and with a trip to Bay Models for couplings, all construction was about a day! I'm now building a second coach to join it! |

I did something pretty similar - built a couple of tenmille kits and realising that basically a carriage is just a wooden box with holes for windows, went and built a bogie coach using an O gauge lima tank wagon chassis.
You add panneling, doors and window frames just by glueing on wood strip.
Complexity depends on prototype - if all the sides are flat its easy, curved or bow sided is harder. _________________ It's a Mamod Jim, but not as we know it!
