I have changed the drive from an elastic band to a chain, which has improved things considerably.

Definite improvement there Chris! I shall have to rebuild my K'Nex Ferris Wheel (which is a metre high!) and see if I can get it to work with steam  _________________ Si

Well done and the speed of the ferris wheel seems about right too.
