Since another topic got onto Windows Vista, does anyone here have it, know of anyone having it?
If my boss were an eskimo, you could sell a Freezer to him. He aint too smart.
He recently got a new all in one printer thing for his computer at work. Yup, this took a local computer place to come in and install it.
The next day he asked me what was wrong with his computer, due to boot up time being slow.
I had no idea. Rebooted it, and saw it had windows vista.
I had read a review of it, saying it can make a computer slow to boot.
I told him that was his problem. He reckons the IT guy that hooked his printer up told him he needed it
This was 2 days after it was released here (about 2 weeks ago)
He was done. I just wish it was his money and not works _________________

My brother has it on his laptop, you have to have a good computer to run it, i mean, at least a 3 gigaheartz processor, 512 ram, and a top of the line graphics card, etc... _________________ "Some of you will fight for your planet, most of you will die for your planet, and some of you will be forced through a fine mesh screen for your planet. Thanks TE1aman
I forgot to add, my Bosses computer is a Acer, about 1yr old.
The article I read did state that if your PC was bought as an average PC more than a yr ago for around $2000 (AUS $$) then don't put vista on it without upgrading.
I think I'll leave well enough alone. _________________

Ya, acer isn't a top of the line brand either, i suggest a HP or a Dell to anyone going to get a computer. _________________ "Some of you will fight for your planet, most of you will die for your planet, and some of you will be forced through a fine mesh screen for your planet. I always build my own PCs as I can pick and choose the parts I want. I might not be able to build it as cheap as a package PC but I know it is of good quality.
We still get adverts here from a certain computer company for package PCs that come with only a CD burner but if you pay an extra $50 they will upgrade it to a DVD burner. I bought a dual layer DVD burner for only $39 yesterday! _________________ http://www.freewebs.com/ozsteam/index.htm

Ya, if you are going to want a good computer and you are good with them, you should always build one yourself. And it costs more to have it built for you, but if you want a good computer pre-assembaled and you don't do much with it, you should just get a dell or a HP, or even a IBM. _________________ "Some of you will fight for your planet, most of you will die for your planet, and some of you will be forced through a fine mesh screen for your planet. The prcessor and RAM requirements are such with Vista, not everyone will buy the full professional version, as usual Micro$oft will capatilise on their near monopoly by bringing out as many versions as possible. Also it needs 3Gb on disc space - bloatware or what, Jesus 10-15 years ago you couldf have fitted a country' s defence information on that!!
I run my older anglpoise lamp iMac on the very latest OSX and although mine needs more RAM now, the processor runs the OS impeccably . . . . |

I have Vista home premium on order.
I too have been building and repairing computers for many years and conclude the following.
Vista is a new operating system designed to cope with the latest trends, hardware and software both of the present and the future.
Can you imagine trying to run some of the present day software on Windows 3.1??
Computing is always evolving and operating systems must evolve with it.
Like it or not, as XP fades into the past, sooner or later you have to accept that you need to upgrade the operating system if you want to move forward.
So I'm for Vista as I was for XP. I'm not saying it's perfect by any means, but as a full featured operating system it will easily blow all competition away.
Just my opinion. _________________ Ouch! Where's the burn cream

Good to hear SM
I will get it eventually. Not on this machine though. Well maybe. It's capable of it, from what I read, but so was my old PC when I upgraded from Windows 3.11 to Win95, and that was a big mistake.
I'm lucky cos I don't really get the latest games or software so don't really need it just yet. I could imagine with you video editing you keep updated.
My last jump from a PC and Windows operating system was from Win98 on a PC that ran it comfortably to this PC with XP.
Based on that timeframe I will be looking at about 9yrs and 2 or 3 more Operating systems released before I upgrade. _________________

Worked with Windows 3.1 and 3.11 to start with and worked my way through them. Never been inclinded to touch a mac with a 10ft barge pole, and never will.
Never really had a great big problem with Windows to be honest, I can't see what all the fuss is about.
I was wary about changing from 98-2000 but it was a good change, and XP was by far the best choice for my needs too!
A graphics card won't effect the performance in Windows though Logan! you can run windows on a crappy onboard one.
Move on, get with the times _________________ Solid Fuel tablets explode

My only gripe with 3.11 to 95 was according to the package at the time, I met recommended requirements, not minimum.
But it really slowed my PC up, and many others had the same problem.
Try a search for the Windows 95 song by Weird al, sung to that Start me up song by the Rolling Stones.
That was a laugh, and pretty much sums up Win95 _________________
