....trainee firing on the Ffestiniog Railway! Here are some pics of what I got up to in the mammoth period i was there:
A few pics from Boston Lodge:
The single fairlie Taliesin is currently out of action as it's having it's monoblock cynlinder fitted, and was stuffed at the back of the engine shed!
Penrhyn Hunslet "Blanche" is pulled out of the paint shops for the first time after having a splendid (and well overdue) re-paint!
Being pushed into the erecting shops so that some final bits can be done!
Later on that day, Quarry Hunslet "Britomart" is brought out to play!
Quarry Hunslet "Lilla"'s nameplate after being cleaned, she was out of action at the time awaiting a boiler test
Lilla and Blanche in the erecting shops! (If your wondering why there's no one else around, it's cause it was a sunday! )
Now for some other bits and bobs:
Well, this was always going to happen! My Lady Anne "Snowdon" with a Roundhouse Linda and Peter Angus Palmerston!
Blanche in Minffordd yard doing some shunting for the gravity train which was the next day!
Hmmmmmm
and the new re-paint looks fabulous!
The Earl of Merionydd passes by Minffordd
Now, this day was the gravity train day, which I didn't manage to get any pictures of, but it was also Linda's first Official day back in service, so it was double headed with sister loco Blanche, and also picked up Merddyn Emrys on the way down as well...
Now, how often is it that you see a triple header on a normal passenger service?
Merddyn dragging the slate train back into Minffordd yard later that day
and pausing while Linda and Blanche pass by again!
Now, as it was Linda's first official day back in traffic, a special was held for all the staff/volunteers for the railway, known as "The Italian Tank Train" (Why it was called that, I really don't know!)
Linda at Porthmadoc doing some shunting before the train
Going over Cai Mawr with the sun just setting
Tank Curve
At Dduallt, now if your wondering "how can he take that picture if he was on the train?" well, there was a run past at Dduallt so that people could get some pictures, and this was her reversing back.
Going over the deviation bridge!
Leaving Dduallt once the train reversed back
Running round at Bleanau Ffestiniog
and then much later on at Minffordd!
Now, seeing that I had a 16mm loco with me, I thought I'd take it along to the Llechfan Garden Railway by the Tal-y-Llyn railway!
Snowdon posed next to a roundhouse Taliesin!
Much later on me and a friend double headed our locos (the Linda is the same one as before) with as much stock as we could find! I can't remember how many bits and bobs were in it now!
and then to end off the day Snowdon was just tootling around with a small freight train!
Taken on one of my walks, Garret 138 storms through the Aberglaslyn Pass!
Down in Minffordd Yard, Lilla is back in action!
With Blanche as well!
Blanche at Port Station, this picture was taken by the parents, as they came to see me fire a steam loco!
Me watering the loco
Firing around Dduallt Spiral
Same place, but on the return trip
and exchanging tokens at Rhiw Goch!
And here are some more pics at Boston Lodge/Dinas
Britomart is brought out to play once again!
Shunting Palmerston around
Merddyn Emrys at Portmadoc
Quote of the day: "Garret GTI" This is on garret 143's manifold chest, I normally expect something like this to be on a small ford fiesta, not a 60 ton garret! (If you can't see what the writing says, the top one says Turbo and bottom Drifting
More shunting around Boston Lodge, David Lloyd George, Britomart and Palmerston are brought out!
Garret 87 on shed at Dinas after I'd been firing it
The Statfold Barn Railway Mallet was also back for superpower weekend!
and also Lilla was around as well!
Britomart goes up the line
While a Darjeeling B class loco is unloaded at Minffordd Yard!
Waiting for the signal from the cab of Lilla (I was currently the fireman at the time!)
And thats the end of the sensible stuff! But before I leave you to enjoy the photo's, I'll let you have a little guess as to where this is:
If anyone guesses it right I'll post the rest of the pictures that you'll enjoy!
Enjoy |

That's a very interesting concept, difting a Garrett loco It must have a pretty massive pair of garrett turbos to get it slideways around each bend _________________ IF IT'S TOO LOUD, YOU'RE TOO OLD

I will say that I am lucky living only 8 miles from the railway, and I really really do enjoy myself there! (even with the odd hickups that I've done, e.g. Priming to a halt leaving Tan-y-Bwlch, managing to put both fires out on the oil fired double David Lloyd George leaving Porthmadog etc ) |
