Wonderful boats, Gary, Greg and Daryl.

I believe the Russians built a round battle ship once, it was no succes, I bet Greg's boat will do a lot better.

(I read a few comments about building "suspense", it was not planned. I wish I had the darn boat finished by now, but everything that could go wrong did go wrong. Well at least I'll have a working casco before the end of the event. Unless more things go wrong. (In that case I'll build a new small boat for the event and the current boat will move to a building topic where I'll finish it.))

I am jealous of Geoff getting a coveted oil tin so large--That type of metal is so light and the kind I wish I could find!

The engine is so handsome with the hex bolts!!

Well Daryl ... seeing as how your excellent entry is sooooo thought provoking ... and knowing of the classic phrase "A Penny for Your Thoughts"... perhaps you are alluding to an attempt to make us think in "Putt-Putt" mode!?!?

Some more great videos of boats, your boat does remind me of a hovercraft Greg when viewed front on.

Daryl i love the steam/sail boat combo, did you name it in tribute to the Canadian penny as i know the RCM are stopping production?

What a great thread this is. The ingenuity of the builders and their different approach to the challenge is simply amazing.

What an inspiration.

Keep 'em coming guys.

Swift Fox wins.  No more pennies in Canada. They are to be "junked".

I guess more of a pun than a tribute.

Well guys , sea trials have been done .
Results were disappointing performance wise , but the fun factor was there .
But she did run , not very well , this was my second pop pop boat i have built , the first one was when i was but a wee demon at the tender age of 6 .
I took a short drive to the outskirts of town , to a small dam , and took my surf rod , which came in handy .

So i gotta say , for me , it was about having a go , participating , and joining in the fun ....... i think i achieved that ,
so i`m happy .

Therefore , "Olive Oil" is relegated to the shelf where i can look back at fond memories of my first attempt .

But Capt Demon has told me to tell you he`ll be back next year , hopefully with a vessel that can outrun a chinese junk !

What is it? Another screwed up part, to save time I hard soldered a piece of metal to it so that I don't have to cut the part (with the little jewelers saw) all over.
I've piles of screwed up parts, I probably could build a boat out of them!

I'm working like a madman for hours a day the last few days just to get my boat finished, I make errors, get frustrated and the deadline is coming closer and closer. I guess I forgot what WWPPBB is all about: It's not about having the most awesome boat, it's about having fun!!!

Part of me wants to keep going and I will, but it won't be for this event. I'll open a buiding topic for those interested and will continue there.

(Currently the hull has several coats of spray filler, is partially grinded and ready for engine installment.)

And for now, I'm going to have some fun. I'm going to build a putt-putt boat! (A smaller one that is.   )
