MM, I do think you might hold the rank of "supreme polisher"...don't know how you do it, but your brass shines like no one elses.
Ya just need to spray all those fireboxes 
just kidding...but you know I would actually do it!!!!

I don't like spraying fireboxes , it's difficult, harder than a base because it's not totally flat. I know why you would spray them Rog and that's all fine by me  . The decal puts me off.If it was total rust or a poor job (like the SE4) I'd have sprayed it no problem . Looking at your Bowmans, it's hard to find reasons not too spray them
I've got no problem with people who like to restore engines it's their choice, and I guess they are more fireable

MM,
I too understand why many DON'T respray fireboxes and bases...we each like them our own way and that makes this a wonderful hobby....it would be boring if we did them up exactly alike.
If the need does arise though, I have found a simple way to spray them FLAT to avoid paint drips down the sides. Get a board that fits the narrow end of the firebox, clamp it in your vice of choice with wide side facing up...then set firebox on the board to spray the up most side, 15 min later, rotate, etc. etc. it takes longer for sure, but you get as good a job as spraying a flat base.
Simple but very effective.

I sprayed each side at a time with my SE4 firebox, eventually got a decent finish
