Ok,
Here's my little firebox so far.
I drilled and tapped the end plates,The upper holes are through holes and pretty easy to tap, I don't like tapping blind holes with cheap little hardware store taps,
So on the lower ones I tapped into a cross hole which made it easier to clear out the chips as I tapped.
Next I cut up some copper that was on hand, I would have used tin but all my scraps are getting too small, So it was copper, Brass, or another trip to the store.
Just a bend on the bottom end.
and a slight curve at the top.
A pretty good fit.
Now a few holes and I can tighten things down.
Here's a side view
I guess it's a bit of plumbing next. |

It's so good it looks as if it is being produced professionally. _________________ Les - Don't panic - it's your round next.

Hi guys, Well today I got things bolted down and ran a steam pipe to the reverser block, I hooked a fuel supply to the burner for a test steamup.
Everything was going great, the new firebox worked just fine and the pressure was up in no time
Then the moment of truth came, I opened up the throttle and .....
CLUNK!!
After things cooled down and I had some lunch I took a look at things and discovered this
One of the piston rods had become Unpressed.
So that explains the CLUNK!!
I swapped those out for a different set of cylinders and had a much better test.
I'm going to have to scrounge some more parts to finish both trams so until get those, and reattach my piston to the rod I'll be mainly working on this one.
I hope to try it on track tomorrow.

This begins to look like a locomotive now and I believe you´ll find a solution for the broken piston rod. All in all I can only say: Great work !

Very nice work, keep it up. My only suggestion would be to use a thinner pipe for the pressure gauge, the current one looks too thick. _________________ Say: Donaudampfschiffahrtsgesellschaftskapitän |

Yes they were from Dreamsteam, with the exception of this one cylinder I've had only good experiences with them and thier products.
It's a small problem which I'm sure can be fixed easily. |

The diameter of the pipe can´t be shortened too much as it is needed to show a propper pressure on the gauge.

I went and picked up some tin yesterday and Started tinkering with a body for one of the trams.
\
Good thing I didn't buy a smaller piece due to the fact that my engineering as I go method sometimes (quite often) produces scrap.
Anyway after starting over only once I ended up with a pretty simple body design, and I've still got plenty of tin for a canopy.
Just a few ideas sketched on, something to give more thought to.
Cheers,
Bill |
