Is there no intention by the council to rasie fund to restore it?

What a shame to see it just sitting there, and to be honest it does not look in too bad condition from the photos.

I have seen loco's on the North Norfolk Railway restored from much worse condition.

not sure to be honest.... i doubt it though.  nannup is about 3 and a bit hours drive south of the perth city....bang in the middle of some decent forrest...  not much of a population now (in terms of numbers).  it gets a few tourists at certain times of the year, lots of places to relax and get away form it all. its a beautiful place, but i doubt that the place would have any real interest in restoring it.

i mean each time we have seen it on one of our camping trips it has been full of rubbish.  if they cant keep it clean i doubt theyd be up to getting people rallied together for a restore.

More than likely Pauly is right, it's just a cracked casting, which is not a rare thing. If it were a steal job they would've ground off the rivets first. Also, it takes some considerable force to break something like that, so the lever would have left noticeable scratch marks on the back plate.

yeah all it takes is some impurities in the casting and itll weaken and crack over time, we have plenty of broken plate castings at the Tanfield many of which have broken in a very similer way.

and dont forget its only a portable, not to bad talk portable but they arent exactly big attractions since they can only function as a generator for larger machines and cant haul, the average slack jawed tourist would probably stare at it for 6 seconds and then forget all about it.

If it was a roller or tractor it would stand a much greater chance of resoration.

yes. i had considered that too. if it was restored, what would one do with it? i think the novelty would soon wear off with the uninformed.

I think the is a policy in place that stops the export of these, even though they were made in England.
