I finally got home to Melbourne today, and had a chance to run my D2.
First impressions are very good, a nicely finished engine.
It's been running for around one hour now, and it gets better as it goes.
Very smooth and quiet.
It's very susceptible to breezes, it might need a shield around the candle if used outdoors.
Indoors is fine, as long as there's no draughts to affect the heat source.
My verdict-
I love this little critter, it should be a very strong seller in the Wilesco range. _________________ Regards,

Thanks Clinton- I'm really stoked with this little engine.
I'm sure yours will turn a few heads at Petrie- if not, get the whip out! _________________ Regards,

Seems like the D2 is getting unanimously good reviews!
I'll have to look into getting one. It takes little space in the cabinet, and the fuel could hardly be cheaper. You can get a huge bag of those candles for a couple of dollars. _________________ Regards,

Hi All , am about to hit the button on on one of these little engines. A question if I may , has anyone tried to substitute the factory supplied candle with an "after market" one? Do they fit and are they up to the job?
Suggest the flame height and candle heat would be critical . How do they go with a half used candle?
Actually that was three questions
Cheers,

I use an alcohol burner from PM Research, (NO-90-6), that has a center wick. This fits very close to the bottom of the engine, about 5 mm away, but produces a nice round flame covering the center 2/3rd's. It isn't nearly as suseptible to drafts as the candle, and has more heat for faster running. Runs about 25 min. w/20ml water. Watch it, because it will run out of water before fuel! _________________ Give us this day our daily Steam,
