I was wondering if they make an " easy out " this small.... I'm guessing the stud is 2mm ?

It brass and broke flush to the valve.

I was going to try to remove the stud with the valve in place ???

It probably should go into a drill press for a nice clean hole.

Just one of the first little things that needs fixing on the Marklin I aquired last week.

Any thoughts ?   You can see the valve and stud in the center of the pic.

I would remove the valve from the engine so it is easier to work on .
does the stud go right through the valve?
I would drill a small hole in the center of the stud then  soak in CRC or something to penetrate first..
then I would heat and square up the blank end of a small drill bit  and taper it at the same time.
reharden it then insert into the previously drilled hole
and gently try turning it  and maybe also heat and cool it quickly in order to break the seal .
also is it threaded or press fitted?

It doesn't go all the way through.

All the other handles are threaded... so I hope this is too.

As you said the now broken off handle was brass , I would just remove the valve, drill it out, re-thread the hole and screw in a new threaded length of brass rod. Then add a wooden handle grip if there was one originally.

I was able to drill clean hole through brass center.  I'll try and back it out tomorrow. I put some penatrating oil on it for now.

If it's a bugger.... I'll just drill the rest out and clean up the threads with a tap.

Snap on tools sells reverse (left hand rotation) drill bits more often than not I have gotten lucky had the bit snag and the broken stud spin right out. They are outrageously priced and worth every dime...I kept 2 sets in my briefcase while teacing my high school automotive classes also PB blast seems to be the best penetrant.

Thanks for all the advise and info.

A drill just a tad smaller than the hole itself took out the rest.
It came out nice and clean.
