| Quote: | Having joined this forum a few days ago, I thought this might be a good time to introduce myself, although I'm delighted to notice that a lot of people here already know my website at http://www.mooseman.org.uk
My name's Odilon Marcenaro, I'm 37, of mixed Dutch/Italian origin and I have lived in the UK for the last 12 years, and very happily so. I'm a university lecturer in sound engineering and music technology at the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama in Cardiff. I'm married with two children, a girl (5) and a boy (1). My daughter Millie the Moose already owns her own steam engine (a Jensen 60, kindly donated by IndianaRog), and is perfectly confident in operating it. My wife is highly tolerant of the smell of meths
I got into steam at the tender age of 10 when I was given a Wilesco D45 for my birthday. A sizeable gap followed, and I started collecting in earnest some 5 years ago. My main interest are British engines ca. 1925-1960, so I have a fair few Bowmans, the whole SEL range, a Burnac, a Latimer and a Mersey. I'm also very fond indeed of the older Jensen and Empire US engines.
Almost all the engines (with the noteable exception of the US ones) were wrecks when I found them - I love restoring them to "factory fresh" condition. ALL my engines are runners - if it can't be run safely I don't want it in my collection.
My most recent project has been building the Hobbies Arrow steam launch - fitted with a Bowman boiler and a SEL engine (as used in the Mamod M.E.3), this is about to start undergoing "sea trials".
I'm always interested in hearing from anyone with similar interests. I have already made several friends through similar newsgroups, among whom John Chapman, member of this group, is certainly not the least |
What's happened since? Well, a fair few more engines - I'm now a proud owner of an SE2 and an SE3. My "Arrow" has proven her seaworthiness, and I now have three steam launches, including an original Bowman Snipe.
I briefly was moderator on this forum, but ran out of time and energy, so kind of passed on the torch to my good friend IndianaRog. This year I have concentrated on expanding my network of steamfriends, with some success - I now enjoy regular steamups with a mate a few streets away.
Apart from that? I'm a year older!
My website, http://www.mooseman.org.uk/ is still going strong, still attracts a few thousand visitors each month, and has recently been expanded with material written by members of this forum. _________________ Sight to the blind

Well, I can't spout any Welsh ditties, so will just say Moose that it has been a great experience knowing you now for going on 3 years and seeing our mutual collections, websites and steam friendships grow in the process.

It's been an enormous pleasure getting to know you all - it's added another dimension to the hobby. I used to think I was a lone nutter, I know better now!
