Hi all,
My name is Paul as the handle says and I hail from the greater Seattle, WA area. I have been involved in live steam and steam toys for a bit over 6 years now. My primary involvement is in live steam locomotives, primarily in 7/8":1' on 32mm gauge track representing 18" industrial railways. My present stable of locomotives is four; a c. 1995 Mike Chaney Hero, a Roundhouse Millie, Roundhouse Katie, and a Regner Chaloner. I also have a Jensen 75 that was my start in toy steam and is at present my only stationary.
I found the forum through the webistes of MooseMan and IndianaRog and decided to join. I am particularly interested in building a launch (Midwest Faintail), and also potentially doing some restoration on pre-1950 British engines. _________________ Paul

Welcome to the forum, it's a great place and full of really helpful guys. I'm a fan of Mamod Loco's and Garden Railways myself too.
I like the look of those old Mike Chaney Loco's - I've got a few loco projects on the go at the moment along similar lines. |

Thanks much for the warm welcome. I really look forward to watching the goings on of the various members.
Alan,
I like the loco plates you did for Rob Bennett's Salopia as seen on the 7/8ths forum. I really should get down to business and perhaps order some plates for my locos. As to my Mike Chaney, it is a delightful little loco. It will happily potter around all day with regular topups of meths and water and a lubricator refill every half hour or so. I also had Mr. Chaney repack the glands and add new piston rings before he closed shop last year. Sadly, it is presently sidelined with steamline woes. I dismantled the loco for a good cleaning and inspection of the running gear and found a weak solder joint and a very stiff (frozen) fitting in the process. Whilst attepting to undo the fitting I have since found to be frozen, an adjacent solder joint broke leaving me in a bit of a bind. I am at present trying to determine how to suitably replace the bad fitting.
Roger,
Locomotive fans or just generally crazy? I meet both criteria admirably. Seriously, your site has some amazing material on it that I find inspiring. One engine I really would like to obtain and restore at some point is an Empire B-31. Very neat engine that just looks the part. _________________ Paul
