I see what you mean about mamods being addictive. The mm1 hasn't arrived and already I bought this on ebay. Someone hide my credit card please!

| Looks like my work is a bit more intensive on the latest venture. The level plug is missing and no mention of the burner. I have tried to date it but not sure what sort of burner I need. |

I'm no expert but i would guess at it being from the 1960's and i think you would need a vapourising burner and two handled level plug for it. Will at Manor Models sells a lot of good spares.
I can vouch for Mamods being addictive as i'm sure others can. _________________ My Website:

My research would date it at post 1958 and pre 1970, but without the burner and decal visible, I have struggled to be more precise. On the subject of the burner, would it have had the long handled one with the knob on (that no one seems to have) or the more common wire loop type?
The ones I have looked at without the whistle and vapourising burner appear to have the one handled level plug. (Or in one case a set screw )
I think once it arrives and I can see the baseplate clearly, a lot of questions will be answered. Therefore I won't be buying any bits until it arrives.
Would I be right in assuming the safety valve for the MM1 is the 1/4" version and not the early 3/8" one? If s0, I should be able to rob the one off the SE1 to get it running and get a new one for that. Regarding the safety valve, should these be replaced as a matter of course on safety grounds for old unknown Mamods?
You can also add a Stevenson's Rocket to my list, albeit missing a chimney / smokebox. One day I will get around to making a new one or better yet acquire a genuine one. Wish I knew what happened to the original. |
