I am overwhelmed by the warm welcome. None of the many forums I lurk on have had two pages (or even much of one) of welcome, when I joined.

But enough of that. I am also encouraged by those who think it is within my abilities to fix the boiler. Removing and replacing the end cap shouldn't be too difficult, however my concern is whether replacement water glasses and fittings for the feed water piping are available. Are there any good pictures available? I would rather it doesn't look like I cobbled it up, if and when it's fixed.

And more importantly, not blow up in my face. Making chips and sawdust is fun, but Boilers command respect.

Again, thanks for the good words.

Welcome to the forum Bob, a little late as usual.

That Doll looks great, and definitely fixable. There is a wealth of knowledge in the membership here, and a few very talented machinists. You'll get that boiler fixed, no doubt.

Your wonderful vintage engines boiler isn´t lost. You get all the requiered help you want here and we have some real experts for vintage steam engines amongst us. Your taste in engines is marvellous: Stuart engines and a popcorn engine: That is all fine stuff to be shown here. ( - We all are addicted to see engine pictures - )

welcome and that is one fine engine you have there im sure you can fix it but finding the parts might be hard i have repaired my doll engine as the sight glass screws were broken i had to de solder the end cap but as its soft solderd is wont be hard to get off

Thanks to those of you who have encouraged me to fix the boiler. I did remove it, gave it a liberal dose of PB Blast and removed the whistle, pressure gauge and top of the safety valve. The steam outlet has to come off to before the steam dome and safety valve. It has resisted some gentle force,with a 4" cresent wrench. Now I'm mulling over several versions of plan B. I sure don't want to break it.

Here is a picture of the underside. Some previous novice got to it before me.

Not only is there a lot of solder but also a generous dose of epoxy.

The plot thickens.

Well! Using techniques, that many years ago, would have gotten me fired and will remain undisclosed here, I did get the steam valve, dome and pipe off of the boiler. End cap is next!

I hate to quit while I can still put it back together, so we'll see what tomorrow brings.
