There are many excellent reports of the day, so as I couldn't add a lot more, I thought I might just detail some of my highlights. Before I do, some official thoughts.
The reason we keep the forum so far ahead of the game, is because we keep asking ourselves how we could make it better. Although the day was another resounding success, it may well have been a dismal failure, if the weather had turned against us. Even though we had good weather, the steady breeze wreaked havoc with meths burners, and a lot of fine engines were unable to be displayed simply for that reason.
The reason we did not have the marquee this year was because it was simply too big for the area we had. Next year we plan to have everyone inside, by splitting the marquee into two smaller ones to be able to utilise the space we have.
The advertising push this year, was really successful, and the interest from the public was very gratifying. We had a busy show, all day, and many chats with interested people and wide eyed children.
I had a wonderful time, and because my home built juice reducer worked so well, I had plenty of time to chat to fellow members and public alike.
Some of my many high spots were, singing happy birthday to Philip at the venue, receiving my framed rainbows certificate from my mate, Pete The Steam, sampling James' mum's plumb bread and cheese, and chatting steam with John Dawson, who's team are responsible for preserving this wonderful venue. I could go on and on.
Most of all though, it's that special feeling of well being you get from being among friends, that really tops my highlights. The fun on the day, gathering in the pub afterwards, and the quiet chats over a pint prior to the big night, all go to make this event a unique forum experience.
A big thank you has to go to John Dawson and his team, James family for the catering and all the support for everything from the portaloo to the boating pond and the catering.
Last of all, a personal thanks to all of my forum friends who made this event so special for myself and Mary. You truly are a marvelous bunch.
PS. I'm off to Canada at the weekend, but I'll be working on the DVD before I go, and as soon as I get back. There's some really good footage of both Junction 26, and the STL, and I'm hopeful that this will be the best one yet.
Hopefully some pics on another thread. _________________ http://www.sandmansteamshack.co.uk/
