Well, they aren't produced any longer. They were made in the former GDR/DDR (East Germany) before 1989. "EKT" is the abbreviation of "Elektro-Kleintechnik", they were located in Dresden. There are several threads on this forum dealing with the different models and EKT's history. As far as I know there is still no clear picture regarding the (highly probable...) cooperation between EKT and Oesterwitz (also GDR/DDR).
BTW: These models were originally not made as steam toys but as so called "Lehrmodelmaschinen" (educational model engines).
The third company of this kind was PREFO (recommended by Gaselan in their late 1980s manual for their steam engine as supplier of steam toys). Steyer produced a small range of steam toys as well.
One day I will find the time to publish all this in a book... 
These models appear quite regularly on German ebay. Due to the quality especially of EKT/Oesterwitz models prices are rising (for the more sophisticated models and especially for the Oesterwitz bakelite edition)... Paintwork (green or blue) on the metal models tends to peel off...
