Very clever, did you make the piano and pianist yourself or steal one of your children's toys. _________________ Les - Nolo Servile Capistrum

Yes its a PM Research 3BIM kit.
It was already machined I just had to paint and assemble it.

I made the piano man about 7 years ago when I was unemployed and poor.
I had no power tools back then so it was made completely with just a dove tail saw, fret saw, 1/2 inch chisel, a hand drill and screwdriver.
Obviously I also used paint, paintbrushes, glue and screws.
Its been put away for the last 2 years as visiting children all love it and when one broke the man off the seat it was repaired and put out of children's reach but I decided to bring him out of hiding for STWWW and my kids have been playing with him all week. _________________ http://www.freewebs.com/ozsteam/index.htm

Next up I have a T E Haynes Hot air engine.
In 1967 3 books were published by T E Haynes for HIgh School metalwork projects.
Book 1 Steam engine and boiler
Book 2 Hot-air engine
Book 3 Electric motors
Here is one I recently purchased disassembled.
The large cylinder on the left is the transfer cylinder.
This one is heated up at the very end and as it heats up the air inside it expands.
In the next photo you can see the transfer piston is considerably smaller than the cylinder. This is to allow the hot air to move around the piston as it moves down the cylinder.
As the piston moves down the hot air moves out of the transfer cylinder into the power cylinder via the hole in the plate to the right of the transfer piston rod.
Here is the other side of the plate where the power cylinder bolts.
Unlike the transfer piston the power piston has a gas tight fit.
As the hot air moves into the power piston it pushes the power piston up, but because it is colder on this side of the engine the air cools and contracts pulling the piston back down and shifts the air back into the transfer cylinder to heat it again.
Here is the engine reassembled with a replacement linkage that was missing and new gaskets.
I wonder if it works............... _________________ http://www.freewebs.com/ozsteam/index.htm

Yes exactly so everything must be gas tight.
A small leak kills these engines, they have little power compared to a steam engine so reducing friction is a must. The LTD engines have so little power if you oil them the stickiness of the oil actually stops them. _________________ http://www.freewebs.com/ozsteam/index.htm
