In addition to finding out if the forum has enough interested members in staging a World Wide Pop Pop Boat Build event, How about some input of categories to award on / in, and or criteria:
Not to make it overly complicated- but there is a broad range of age, skills , shops, tools, materials available.
*The only thing I would not like to see is any "store bought" hulls being recycled for use..No store- bought pop-pop engines either
*Plastic hulls, metal hulls, wood are all great, paper for that fact too. . Every thing is make your own.
*Use of web plans are fine in my book
* best decoration
* Wildest design etc
*I Can't believe it floats and runs award!!!
*In addition to submitting a picture - videos can be also submitted for a
loudest pop pop engine / quietest
*I do not know how we could pull off a time trial for speed??
* Maybe a Amateur level and a Pro???
We could give everybody a month to build and a sticky to submit them to upon completion? This could be a great way to get members crossing traditional steam lines and attract some of our lurkers to join in the fun --Pop Pops seem to be a "gateway drug" to live steam

Gerald. |

I don't know Gerald..I am not a big rules person on this type of thing. Just looking to get people involved in the fun of the little fellows.
Unless the group decides it has to be something particular-and " newly built" only during the time frame -- build another if you want for the fun of it..on a different type..or use what you have..
I will not squash fun _________________ Lagniappe readily offered and accepted,

I wish i was!, sadly no although i must admit i do love their strips and think it is worth advertising them for people to see. I'll start a new thread so we don't go OT on here . _________________ My Website:

Could it be either one of the pop pop engine designs? I.E. the diaphragm type or the coil pipe type _________________

Great question----
Absolutely-
Choose the engine you like
the boat shape
rudder or no ( lengthen one tube or the other for L or R arc)
decorate or plain
elaborate or simple
candle
olive oil
meths
or PROPANE
I will leave the poll up for about 5 days so we can get all that might miss it.
Anybody have any ideas on the parameters and or categories etc?? I am a blank page _________________ Lagniappe readily offered and accepted,

I have made a number of the coil engines, but never had much luck with the Diaphragm ones. I had glanced at the pop can design quickly, but had not really seen one run then,
I watched 26 sections of

I think that you should post a message about this in the steam launch section.
