My main area of interest is in steam railways, mainly narrow gauge and miniature. I used to be a volunteer on the Bluebell Railway, but this was to far from my home to make regular working visits. I am a volunteer at the South Downs Light Railway, The Amberley Working Museum, and the Chichester and District Society of Model Engineers. I am currently building a ten and a quarter inch gauge engine to a Andrew Barclay of Kilmarnock design, in the very early stages at present. I drive railway engines, but not with passengers at present, due to age restrictions. My interest in steam toys was founded when in one science lesson, a Mamod SP4 was used to demonstrate how to power a light using a generator. Unfortunately, it did not! I recieved a Mamod TE1A for christmas, and now have a Wilesco Roller and Locomobile, Mamod TE1A, Mamod Minor 1 and Mamod Water Cart in my collection. Here is a picture of me driving a 10 1/4 inch gauge Black Five at the South Downs Light Railway:
P.S. I CAN'T HELP BUT FEEL THIS IS A COPY OF THE "MEET THE MTA COMMITTEE" PAGE ON MY WEBSITE... |

James the 'A4' is an LNER locomotive class, designed by Sir Nigel Gresley, famous members include the Mallard, Silver Link and the SirNigel Gresley.
He also designed the A1 and A3s.
Dominion of South Africa at Plymouth North Road Station - 5 mins up the road from me.

Can I just point out that thats the Union of South Africa, easy mistake to make as there was an A4 called Dominion of South Africa, I think its in America or Canada now. I've been behind Union of South Africa over the Settle and Carlisle Line and then back via Shap. |
