i do not yet own this traction engine, but if things go well, ill have one vary soon. so now is the time to plan on what to do with it.
firstly, i dont want one new, so im not trashing up a new paint job, and why get one new, when im going to make it into something new anyway, i can just get a used one and pay less then fix it up.

right now my main for shore plans are this...

.insulated boiler
.repaint
.tires
.rc upgrade
.drain hole under ''smoke box''
.somehow rig the engine for rougher terrain, mainly give it 2 wheel drive, and still allow good steering.
.if theres plastic levers, replace them
.better whistle if possible. what ones work?
.new chimney
.new axles
.cab floor
.wagon to hall
.make storage box
i would like to add a coal hold at the back, not shore where to get one. would also like a firebox door. where do i find one?
un shore about lighting.
may add handrails and tools
i may add mamod rims but not shore if i want to deal with it.
new front steering maybe, not shore.
i would like to add a deferential without needing to make parts.
if you know where to find the above things that i cant find , please let me know.

You may find this a good read on modifying a wilesco traction engine.

http://modelsteam.myfreeforum.org/about67386.html

John sells the smokebox as components to machine yourself, or as a fully built item. I'm sure if you ask nicely enough you may even get him to make a set of wheels too.   though John had documented the build on the above thread, so will help guide your build hopefully

I use BBQ heat proof satin black for the boiler, smokebox etc and Humbrol Enamel for the tender and boiler cladding sheets, the wheels are in Car Plan spray paint as they wont get that hot that the acrylic paint wont suffer

Hello (sorry don't know your name)

I can send a smokebox ready to fit to a Wilesco engine along with a set of notes to fit this, however you will have to form the new pipework from KS Metal shapes 1/8th OD copper tube and solder the new pipework in place once this is assembled as the existing Wilesco pipework goes into the boiler first to the condensate chamber - on the replacement smoke box this enters through a manifold on the side of the smoke box and exhausts through the chimney.

Note;- the above picture shows the original pipework entering the boiler condensate trap. - with our smokebox the door can be opened periodically to clean / drain out the smokebox

Care will be needed to line up the smokebox accurately to the boiler / fire box and drill through with a No 10BA clearance drill - this can be done with care using a cordless drill a set of BA  nut spinners will prove invaluable

It would also be a lot easier to change the front axle before the smoke box is fitted, I have used a Mamod front axle with new axle to increase the axle length slightly

Let me know your thoughts

thank you to Edrock for working out a sale for this engine, its in good hands and will have plenty of run time!

the next step, my plans are a little changed for painting, i like the brass, but still plan to add a cover over the boiler for realism, protection, and performance. it will have brass boiler bands.

anyone have a rc steering set up that uses a motor or servo to turn the steering wheel?

It looks like you copied the link for the auction.

I went to the ebay auction, right clicked on the picture and selected "copy image address"

I then came to the forum and pasted the code it gave me into my post. In the code there is the number 1600 (image size) I changed it to 800 so it wasn't so big for the forum, and was careful not to change any of the rest of the code.
